Year 9 Wood Technology
Wood Technology includes questions and answers on the different qualities, uses and suitability of different types of materials. This includes wood composites, plastics and synthetics, as well as processing, preservation and recycling. The essence of the skills gained can lead to various project designs using the Technology Curriculum. Students are able to personally design and construct individualised projects by utilising a wide range of skills and expertise. Students will then apply the workshop skills such as measure, mark, cut and finish materials thus enabling them to assemble to production standards their work pieces.
Specifically, you will learn about:
Health and Safety in workshops
Identify and explore needs and opportunities
Choose and use materials, tools, and equipment skillfully and safely
Design technological solutions and evaluate ideas for improvement or modification to create your final project. Two minor and one major projects required.
Work to agreed specifications and quality standards, from the many varied practical projects available.
This course leads to Year 10 wood tech and with advanced students being offered the option of undertaking the initial standards in NZQA Level 1 BCATS program.
The production of various projects will cover the required skills necessary for any basic wood project in building and construction.
Entry: Successfully completed Year 9 Wood Rotation Technology program or Learning Leader’s discretion.
