NCEA Level 3 Mechanical Engineering - Pathway B
This is an Achievement Standards based course which involves practical and theory components around designing a product. It is mainly for students who would like a university pathway.
Students will design, cost, construct and analyse a project that is relevant to them and/or their whanau. This will involve undertaking a brief development to address an issue, developing conceptual designs considering fitness for purpose and developing a prototype in the broadest sense. Students will also implement complex procedures to integrate parts using resistant materials to make a specified product.

NOTE: The school will cover the material costs for up to a value of $50. However, if you would like, for example, to build a car trailer which is galvanised, registered and WOF for a cost of approximately $1500, then you will have to pay for the extras. Either, you pay at the office and use materials provided at school or you can purchase your own materials and bring it into school.
Mainly for students who would like a University pathway.
Entry: Successful completion of Mechanical Engineering, Wood Technology and Design & Visual Communication, specifically at the discretion of the Learning Leader.
Students MUST wear covered shoes and all safety (PPE) equipment in the workshop because Health and Safety is paramount
Students will be able to construct the first project of their choice within a specified brief and cost. Any cost exceeding school coverage fees is met by the students.
