NCEA Level 3 Mechanical Engineering - Pathway A
This is a course designed by Competenz for Level 3 NCEA school based assessments which involves practical and theory components based around engineering. The work will concentrate on drawing practice, machining and fabrication standards. This course is aimed at further enhancing and re-enforcing workshop safety practices, and workshop skills. You will be working towards, and preparing for your portfolio in a workplace environment, keeping in mind safety and a good work ethic.

This course leads to trade qualification pathways in mechanical engineering and engineering fabrication at tertiary level. Skills and knowledge relevant to the material engineering industry:
Demonstrate knowledge of and produce development drawings and patterns for three-dimensional objects in the MaPS environment.
Produce components by performing engineering machining operations in the MaPS environment.
Perform fabrication operations in the MaPS environment.
Note: In order to achieve maximum credits within a set of Competenz assessments, you will be required to create two practical projects throughout the year. Each project will be marked against different unit standards.
Entry: Successful completion of Mechanical Engineering Level 2 or pass marks in other Year 12 subjects and at the discretion of the Learning Leader. This may include interviews with both the student and caregivers.
Students MUST wear covered shoes and all safety (PPE) equipment in the workshop because Health and Safety is paramount.
NOTE: If students choose to construct a third project after completing all the specified projects. Any cost exceeding school coverage fees is to be met by the students.
