NCEA Level 3 Mechanical Engineering - Pathway A

Introduction 

This is a newly restructured course by Competenz designed for NCEA school based assessments and will involve practical and theory components based around Engineering. The work will concentrate on drawing, machining and fabrication standards and we have already done this course for the last two years.  This course is aimed at further enhancing workshop safety practices,  and workshop skills. You will be working towards, and preparing for your portfolio in a workplace environment, keeping in mind safety and a good work ethic. You will also need covered footwear and be dressed (PPE) appropriately etc. in order to meet the health and safety regulations.

Where this course can lead 

This course leads to trade qualification pathways in mechanical engineering and engineering fabrication. Skills and knowledge relevant to the material  engineering industry:  

 Note: In order to achieve maximum credits  within a  set of Competenz  assessments,  you will be required to create  two practical projects throughout the year. Each project will be marked against  different Unit Standards. 

Prerequisites & Equipment 

Entry: Successful completion of Mechanical Engineering Level 2 or pass marks in other Year 12 subjects and at the discretion of the Learning Leader. This may include interviews with both the student and caregivers.

Students MUST wear covered shoes and all safety (PPE) equipment in the workshop because Health and Safety is paramount 

Students will be  able to construct the first project of their choice within a specified brief and cost. Any cost exceeding school coverage fees is met by the students.
