10METL
Year 10 Metal Technology
Year 10 Metal Technology
The Year 10 option programme continues to build on the skills learnt in the Year 9 programme. The focus is a multi-materials approach that includes introductory machining, and welding and Fabrications. This option also provides opportunity for students fabricating mild steel (ferrous) products using Metal Inert Gas (M.I.G.), Arc and/or Aluminum (nonferrous) welding after they complete a series of skill tests.
Students will be required to make two projects that will enhance the practical skill requirements for the senior courses. Students will also learn how to design and build a project to suit the needs of a stakeholder/s. Successful student will be able to start the NCEA journey in Semester 2.
Students are required to make two main projects. In the first semester they will make an individual rectangular closed tool box. Once they successfully complete the tool box, they may choose to start Level 1 NCEA project by making a Tool Makers Clamp (TMC). Upon the completion of TMC, they will be able to achieve 16 credits from three assessments. This will give them a head start for NCEA Level 1.
This course leads to NZQA Level 1 Mechanical Engineering Technology. The production of various metal projects will cover the required skills necessary for any basic multi material theme projects in engineering. Students will be able to make two specified projects by utilising a wide range of skills and expertise. Students will apply the workshop skills such as measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, bending, pop riveting, threading holes, milling, lathe work and welding, by enabling them to assemble their work pieces.
Open entry
Students MUST wear covered shoes and all safety (PPE) equipment in the workshop because Health and Safety is paramount in K4 (metal workshop).
