NCEA Level 1 Design and Visual Communication
This is a class where useful applications of design in everyday life, and their applications in many career options, are taught. It is specifically targeted towards any student who is undertaking a building or engineering course at Level 1 at school. DVC teaches the skills of communicating with graphic design. This is a skill useful in everyday life and has applications in many career options.
A broad range of graphic techniques are covered. The students will be involved in working from a design brief, researching information, developing their design ideas/concepts, creating prototypes and modelling of components, testing these ideas and evaluating the outcomes. External assessment is by way of formal drawings undertaken during the year. Students will produce a portfolio of freehand sketches, pictorial drawings, working drawings and clearly present their selected drawing to a specific audience. If you are interested in the way people choose and use products and spaces, this would be a good choice for you .
