Year 10 Te Reo Maaori
Introduction
This level of study is designed to extend the learning of those students who have taken Te Reo Māori in Year 9 as an option. Some of these students will already have some Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga, especially those who have transitioned from the bilingual unit at Manukorihi Intermediate.
Course Outline
Year 10 Te Reo Māori students will look at developing students’ skills in the following topics:
Greet, farewell and thank people and respond to greetings and acknowledgements.
Use and respond to simple classroom language
Understand and use simple politeness conventions, ie: compliments
Communicate about location
Introduce themselves and respond to introductions
Communicate personal information such as name and home
Communicate about numbers
Communicate about physical characteristics
Communicate about likes
Communicate about possession
Communicate about weather
Communicate about relationships between people
Maaori Performing Arts Level 2 & 3 Unit Standards - Credits Available: (Only available for students who competes in the Pae Rangatahi Kapa Haka Group)
Level 2 Internal - 10 credits
Level 3 Internal - 15 credits

Noho Marae, Manu Koorero, Pae Rangatahi, Koroneihana, Taatarakihi & Puuanga
Where this course can lead
The course prepares you for NCEA Level 1 or Level 2 depending on if you completed NCEA Level 1 in Year 9.
Prerequisites & Equipment
Students are expected to have 2 x 1B5 exercise books and the minor resources i.e pen, pencil, rubber, ruler. That said, the Maaori Department will also purchase resources so that the students do not go without.
Prerequisites: It would be great if the student had studied Te Reo Maaori in Year 9, however, this is not a MUST.
