Pest Eradication & Bush Survival Vocational Training 

Usually run one day a week either Term 2 or 3, students contribute to the conservation and environmental sustainability of Taranaki land by  preparing for, placing, setting and checking traps. Students will monitor our pest animal operation and become aware of environmental best practice through the concepts of kaitiakitanga and whanaungatanga. With bush survival skills, students will become self-sufficient in the outdoors, learning to read maps, build shelters and fires, cook on a campfire,  cross rivers safely, and understand navigation techniques. There is one night camping in the bush. There is a possibility of gaining 16 credits at Level 3.

The NZ Certificate in Outdoor Experiences Level 3 OR Level 4

Both learning programmes promote growth and self confidence in leadership and working with peers as well as teaching others. Students experience challenges, master outdoor skills and discover adventure, while developing valuable life long and vocational skills. 

Students remain at school and come to TOPEC two days per week for the year. The Level 3 programme is introductory which suits Year 12 and 13 students. The level 4 is for more experienced students in the Outdoors, Year 13 that have either finished the Level 3 progarmme or done Outdoor Ed, either in school or extra curricular.
