NCEA Level 1 Agriculture
Introduction
This course will enable the recognition of some entry level skills and knowledge for those people wishing to enter the primary industry. This course is for people working, or intending to work in the Primary Industry, who want to gain practical skills.
The standards from this course include both theory and practical work of which some can contribute to the Level 2 Agriculture course and the National Certificate in Agriculture Level 2.
Course Outline
US19137, 2 Credits, Describe the opportunities, advantages, and disadvantages of primary industry employment.
US561, 2 credits, Install, dismantle, store a Temporary Electric fence.
US497, 3 credits, Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
US24834, 5 credits, Replace a broken post and repair a broken wire in fences.
AS90157, 4 credits, Demonstrate practical skills used in agricultural or horticultural production.
A combination of practical and written assessments are utilised.

Prerequisites & Equipment
There are no specific prerequisites for this course other than an ability to be involved in practical activities on the school farm as well as written tasks in class.
Students having their own gumboots and overalls would be beneficial.
