NCEA Level 2 & 3 Pathways
NCEA Level 2 & 3 Pathways
Pathways is for students who want to investigate career options or undergo workplace training for a specific career pathway. Workplace training or work experience can be completed one day a week over the year or over a shorter time period.
During class time, unit standards will be completed that allow students to look at pathway and careers planning, build an understanding of the workplace and develop skills and knowledge to support life beyond school. These unit standards (not usually University Entrance approved) are the most common standards used during Pathways, although relevant Achievement Standards can be included.
For those on work placements, assessments will be completed in the workplace (practical) and the classroom (theory). Areas of possible study include: early childhood/primary teaching, retail, hairdressing/barbering, hospitality, automotive, with other courses on request. Credits achieved will vary according to what course the student selects.
Where students are wanting to do work experience, students should be able to identify areas they are interested in so that we can assist in finding a placement for them.
Students must ensure their attendance is at 90% or above to complete a work placement, anything below may result in being removed from placement.

It depends on your pathway! Work experience in your chosen field can help you gain a permanent job, or inspire you to complete further study. We can discuss this during your year in Pathways.
None - although if you are wanting a work experience placement, come with an idea of the kind of work you are looking for. If you have some contacts in this area, even better.
