NCEA Level 2 History
In this course we will look at some of the major social, political and military struggles of the 20th Century that have shaped Waitara and the people that live here. This is your History and we should all be aware of our own stories. In the second half of the course, we will look at some of the major social, political and military struggles of the 20th Century that have shaped the world as we understand it. If you think the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi was as peaceful as it looks above, you need to take this course.
Term 1: CONTENT ONLY: early encounters between Maori and Europeans - preceding the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi e.g. the Declaration of Independence through to the aftermath.
Term 2: Research (4 credits) - students frame and conduct their own inquiry into an Aotearoa based historical event interpreting independently selected sources.
They then turn what they found out into their key historical ideas report (5 credits).
Term 3: What is a perspective?, Students gather evidence for TWO DIFFERENT perspectives to do with their research topic or one we have covered in class, students use this for their perspectives (4 cr) assessment. They produce a diary format for TWO DIFFERENT perspectives based on this event.
Term 4: External preparation: students will prepare for the source interpretation exam.

As a lot of historical sources have now been digitised, your job will be to ensure your chromebook is charged and with you for every lesson. A clear file (40 pockets) is also of value but not mandatory.
