Introduction

In Geography, we look at our environment and how it can be affected by human activity. Our environment can be natural (awa, moana, maunga) or cultural (buildings, cities, roads).

In this course, we look at things happening in Taranaki, in Aotearoa New Zealand and elsewhere in the world. 

We'll do some research in our local area, such as looking at where our rivers are the healthiest - is it on Maunga Taranaki or is it as we get closer to to the sea? Why might that be?

We will look at where people live across Aotearoa New Zealand and the world, and why. We also consider the effects and changes for these places?

We will also do a deep dive into a social issue of your choice, and consider what makes it an issue, how it could be fixed, or why it hasn't been solved yet. Some examples we have done in the past are Fast Fashion, Women's Rights in Afghanistan, and Plastic in the Ocean.

There is an optional external standard that looks at a challenge in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific and how people may have different viewpoints when it comes to solving it. 

Prerequisites & Equipment

None! By doing Literacy in Year 10, you will have started to learn some of the skills you need at Level 1 Geography.
