Level 3 Outdoor Education
Level 3 Outdoor Education
This course is designed for students who are interested in developing their leadership and group management skills, or for a pathway into a career in outdoor recreation leadership or sport.
Students will be challenged to plan and carry out two multi-day journeys; ‘Horonuku me Horowai - To feel the Land and Water’, which will encompass all of their learning so far in Outdoor Education. They will also be given opportunities to lead 10SPORT students in a range of experiences. This course has a mixture of University Entrance and unit standard assessments.
Term 1 - Leadership Practice with Year 9 Foundation camps. Safety preparation and planning for the first journey where the class is able to choose their own activities and location.
Term 2 - Preparation and completion of junior sports leadership camp focusing on leadership styles and techniques.
Term 3 - Assessment focusing on preparing for achieving a chosen goal during our three day ski and snowboarding trip to Whakapapa Ski Field. Unit Standard assessment focusing on Whakatipu Tangata in the outdoors.
Term 4 - Optional Backcountry hiking assessment

OUTD can lead to employment in a huge range of fields from Search and Rescue to Youth Organisations. There are also a range of further study options focusing on Outdoor Education and Recreation.
