11HEAL
NCEA Level 1 Health
Introduction
In this course students will be encouraged to think about how well-being can be impacted by changes that happen on a personal level, a family or friendship level, and at a wider community level. For example, one issue we focus on is how and why positive sexuality choices/messages impact us at these various levels. Assessments will often be based on examples of change, such as friendship and relationship troubles, moving house or unexpected injury. You will learn how to manage changes to well-being, as well as take action to enhance your own well-being. Health classes will involve a lot of small group and whole group discussion of ideas and some learning outside of the classroom. Assessments require students to apply their ideas and communicate them through written responses. Students will gain an understanding of how to communicate clearly in order to improve their relationships with others, and they should expect to practice these communication skills in class.
