Year 10 Health & Physical Education
The Year 10 programme builds on the knowledge and skills of the Year 9 HPE programme. This is a compulsory subject at Year 10. Students will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of physical activity contexts in both team and individual settings.
This course focuses on a range of learning 'in, about, and for physical movement' including skills acquisition, interpersonal skills, and fitness studies. Students will also complete one Health lesson per fortnight as part of this course.
Term 1 - Focus on developing skills in athletics and Rippa Rugby with a practical strategy application assessment.
Term 2 - Focus on fitness studies and developing training programmes towards the achievement of a chosen goal.
Term 3 - Interpersonal skills development and assessment through a range of movement contexts.
Term 4 - Student lead games and sports. Also, a short unit with exposure to summer games such as cricket and softball.
An understanding of this subject is of value to all students. It can be related to most other subjects in school and, just as importantly, can be applied once students have left school.
Beyond secondary school, knowledge learnt during this course has applications in many major work related professions. For example: personal trainer, outdoor educator, teacher, sports’ trusts, health professional, and sports development officer. Some of these roles may require further tertiary education.
