FOUNDATION

Introduction

Foundation is our key transition course at Waitara High School. It covers literacy, Social Science, Maths, Science, Health and Physical Education.

The focus is really on a successful transition to school and ensuring that Year 9 students feel that they belong at Waitara High and believe that they will succeed.

Course Outline

The Foundation course focuses on key skills in numeracy and literacy as well as building scientific and social emotional skills. They do this through integrated units such as Taha Maori (Maori Knowledge & Skills), Ko Wai Maatou ( Who are we?), Kaitiakitanga  (Environmental Guardianship) and Sports Inquiry.

Where this course can lead

This Foundational course leads everywhere within Waitara High School and out into the wider world.
