NCEA Level 3 Visual Art
In this course you will apply understanding from broad and deep research into established Art techniques and processes to produce original work within painting, printmaking, photography or art history. In the second half of the year, you will extend ideas from Semester 1, to produce a portfolio of original work presented on three A1 boards, exploring a visual theme of your choosing within your chosen Visual Arts subject.

Students attend gallery exhibitions, meet and work with professional artists, have an option whether to work within the community and enter art exhibitions and competitions within Taranaki and nationally.
Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Art History are offered in Year 13 via 3 standards (22 credits).
There is an option to gain an extra 4 credits to achieve 26 credits overall.
Students choose one of the subjects offered.
Students, with scaffolding, develop one standard. They are then encouraged to research and analyse own brief analysing contexts relevant to their intentions and to the expressions and meanings in their own work.
Key learning outcomes:
Apply deep research and already developed skills into the characteristics of chosen materials, establishing conventions in their chosen field.
To extend and refine artistic skills.
Use a systematic approach informed by recent and established practise, to develop ideas in a body of work (3 A1 panels and 1 A4 sketchbook)
Students have the option of entering for the art scholarship.
This subject is UE endorsed.

Entry: Completion of Level 2 Visual Art.
Entry will not be considered for this course unless the student has completed Level 2 Visual Art.
