Course Content:
Geography is the study of the environment and the interconnections within. We consider the question "What Is Where, Why There, and Why Care?" (Charles F. Gritzner (2002), Journal of Geography, 101:1, 38-40) so we can make sense of place. Te taiao consists of all things that make up the surrounding environment. This includes features such as rivers, mountains, people, buildings, and infrastructure. Te taiao can exist at different scales and can be located wherever we place ourselves.
The course includes extreme natural events and skills including digital mapping, GIS, graphing, fieldwork and report writing. All students undertake geographic research and examine contemporary geographic issues and global patterns.
Methods of Assessment:
This course is comprised of four Achievement Standards, covering two external and two internal forms of assessment. This course is also NCEA subject endorsed. Twenty credits in total.

Course Content:
History provides an opportunity for ākonga to understand how our historical narratives are shaped and how they influence our understanding of both ourselves and the world around us. Ākonga will have the opportunity to look at causes and effects, as well as the continuity and change of historical narratives. Ākonga will develop their understanding of the nature of historical inquiry and will apply culturally appropriate methodologies when conducting research. History prepares ākonga for the future because it equips them with knowledge and skills, such as the ability to articulate ideas and make them clear to others, that are valuable and useful throughout life and a wide range of careers. Topics may include:
- Global Conflict: The Origins of WWII and New Zealand’s role.
- Conflict at Home: New Zealand’s Search for Security and the Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior.
- Racial Conflict: Black Civil Rights in the USA.

Students who have completed Year 10 Commerce are at an advantage for this course; however, new students are welcome, subject to approval by the Head of Faculty.
Course Content:
The Level 1 Commerce is the study of how accounting, economics, and business concepts are used to understand the role of organisations in society and solve real-world problems. In this course, students will develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate and actively participate in the economic world. They will explore how consumers and organisations make financial decisions, and how these decisions are shaped by diverse perspectives and Mātauranga Māori. Students will also examine how decision-making impacts sustainability, financial viability, and social well-being.
Methods of Assessment:
This course is comprised of four Achievement Standards of five credits each, covering two external and two internal forms of assessment. This course is also an NCEA subject endorsed, with 20 credits in total.
