ART1 (Level 1 Visual Art)
ART1 (Level 1 Visual Art)

Course Content:
Visual Art (ART) is a multidisciplinary course that introduces students to all specialist areas of Visual Art as they move from Year 7 - 11. This includes working on projects that include both physical and digital art such as; drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, photography, and moving image.
Year 11 Art explores drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques so students gain control of these techniques and media. Artists from Aotearoa are used as primary artist models to assist students to develop personal style and fluency as young artists.
We want our learners to develop a range of skills and knowledge to foster artistic growth and challenge the notion of creative practice and how that might look for different people.

Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for ART1 includes the new revised Visual Arts standards. All standards require the development of a specific visual portfolio. There are no written examinations for this course.
Note: the selection of standards may differ depending on staffing, access to resources, and student interest.

PRD1 (Level 1 Product Design)
PRD1 (Level 1 Product Design)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Year 10 PRD or SPD or with permission from the Faculty leader
Course Content:
Product Design (PRD) extends the creative, critical, and practical skills developed in junior courses into projects that are connected with our community.
Students learn how to communicate with real clients, manage time and resources including budgets, meet client set deadlines, comply with industry standard health and safety practices, and build awesome and technically challenging outcomes.
We want our learners to develop skill, confidence, independence, and safe practices to ensure they will be an asset to any workplace or institute they may join in the future.

Mathematics
In this course, students will work through a mix of Achievement and Unit Standards. The Unit Standards are practical and theoretical BCITO pre-trade standards. The exact mix of standards will depend on the needs of the students who select the course.
Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for PRD1 is assessed using written assignments, portfolios and practical outcomes.

DGT1 (Level 1 Digital Technology)
DGT1 (Level 1 Digital Technology)

Course Content:
Digital Technology (DGT) is a multidisciplinary course that introduces students to the diverse fields of the digital design and technology industries.
This course develops the skills and practices for developing robust digital outcomes through the process of planning, designing, and producing digital outcomes. This course is recommended for students considering pursuing careers in Digital Technology, Digital Design, or Programming.
Students are encouraged to design and make outcomes that meet an authentic need or opportunity in the community alongside developing their confidence across a range of tools and equipment.
We want our learners to develop a range of skills and knowledge to foster a culture where students can become creators as opposed to consumers of digital technologies, and where the creation of digital outcomes help to meet real needs within our community.

Visual Art (ART) and Digital Art (DAT) in Year 12
Media Studies (MES)
Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for DGT1 includes the revised Digital Technologies standards; a mix of internal and external Achievement Standards. All standards require the development of a specific portfolio of supporting evidence alongside practical outcomes. The external standard is a digital examination that happens before the main examinations at the end of the year.

SPD1 (Level 1 Spatial Design)

Course Content:
Spatial Design (SPD) is a multidisciplinary course that introduces students to various aspects of the Technology curriculum as they progress from Year 10 - 13. This includes skills and knowledge from the fields of architecture, landscape and spatial design, sculpture, graphic design and entertainment design. Students learn how to communicate their ideas visually through a range of techniques which include; freehand sketching, rendering, CAD/CAM presentations and models, digital and physical modelling and exhibition design.
Year 11 Spatial Design is a broad course that encourages students to extend their design skills through a range of different design briefs. Students are challenged to solve a mixture of real problems with real clients and work on personal projects across a range of specialist fields and materials.
Student projects and key foci change each year taking into account previous student experiences and access to specialist equipment. By Year 13 students select their own design projects to work through. Students are encouraged to extend their design practice by learning about design history and tapping into their own creative heritage.
We want our learners to develop a range of skills and knowledge to foster a culture where students can see how they can use design, fabrication and presentation to intervene in the world around them.

Coursework for SPD1 include the new revised Design and Visual Communication Achievement Standards. All standards require the development of a specific design portfolio. There are no written examinations for this course.

FOO1 (Level 1 Food Design)
FOO1 (Level 1 Food Design)
Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations: Year 10 FOO, or permission from the Head of Faculty
Course Content:
Food Design (FOO) extends the creative, critical and practical skills developed in junior FOO into projects aligned with current industry practices. There is a strong focus on connecting with local cafes and restaurants including guest chef demonstrations.
Students learn safe food handling and preparation practices, industry standard culinary techniques, food presentation skills and participate in commercial catering opportunities. There is provision in Year 12 and 13 for barista training. We want our learners to foster an appreciation for manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga through a focus on sustainable practices, eating locally and in season and developing unique flavours.

Viticulture (VIT) in Year 12
Methods of Assessment:
Coursework for HOS is made up of pre-trade Unit Standards and the revised Technology Achievement Standards. All standards require the development of a specific visual portfolio and/or a practical outcomes. The are no written examinations for this course.
