Wahiawa Middle School provides instruction and curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. All other subject areas base their curriculum on the Hawaii Content Performance Standards III (HCPS III) and incorporate the Common Core Literacy Standards. ELA and Math use the newly adopted State curriculum which is Springboard for ELA and Go Math for Math. If you have any specific questions regarding your child’s curriculum, feel free to contact his/her teacher for a syllabus and/or pacing guide.

Wahiawa Middle School is a Title l school. This means that we receive money from the U.S. Department of Education to support all students to achieve academically and meet the state standards. This money is given to schools with a high number of economically disadvantaged students. Wahiawa Middle School qualified for this grant because 66% of our students received free or reduced lunch assistance in the school year 2014-2015.

Our school has decided to use these federal funds along with our state allocated funds to provide additional supports in reading and math with the hire of part-time teachers. We also are providing supports in our English Language Learner (ELL) classroom to provide small group supports as well as one-on-one supports. Title I funds have also been used to purchase the new State adopted curriculum for English and math as well as Chromebooks for our students.

If you have any general questions regarding the curriculum or our Title I status, please feel free to contact our Curriculum Coordinator Nicole Rivera at 305-3360.
