What is a primary source?
A primary source is a resource that was created during the time period you are looking at.
Examples of primary sources include:
Newspapers
Letters and diaries
Speeches
Interviews
Images and photos
Artifacts (objects from that time)
These sources help us understand what life was really like during a certain time period. When using a primary source, you might find important details about historical events that are not mentioned in history books. You can also learn about people and local events that might be missing from those books.
Primary sources show the feelings and language of the time they were created. Sometimes, historical articles, images, and advertisements may include words or pictures that are now considered racist, sexist, or hurtful.
