What is WDCVC?
The West Delaware Community Volunteer Coalition is an opportunity for students to be recognized for volunteering in our community. Students who document 300 or more qualifying volunteer hours by senior awards night will be honored with a silver cord to wear at their graduation ceremony and noted in the graduation program.
Our community supports our schools with generous donations of time, materials, and money. This program offers a way for students to show their appreciation for the generous support the community has given the school district.
How does WDCVC work?
Student volunteers for a qualifying activity/organization.
Any time you are unsure if an activity fits WDCVC’s definition of volunteerism, seek pre-approval from Mrs. Stocks one week in advance.
Student fills out the top portion of the WDCVC volunteer form.
Forms available in the HS Library room 108, in the HS office or the HS website
Student asks the organization’s or event’s sponsor/supervisor to verify the number of hours worked and sign the form.
This should not be a parent unless they are the sponsor of the organization.
Student returns the form to the WDCVC advisor by the 15th of the month following the activity.
Summer hours turned in by September 15th
Place the forms in the tray labeled WDCVC in the HS Library room 108.
Student may request a statement of earned hours twice per year.
Guidelines
Deadlines will be strictly enforced.
Hours must be turned in each month, even if activity is ongoing.
Work cannot be completed for parents/relatives. However, you may volunteer for an organization or event that a relative is in charge of.
Credit given only if the signature sheet is complete; one sheet per volunteer activity.
Committee will decide whether to accept hours for unusual activities.
Travel time to the event will not be counted
If you participate in the activity even at a different level, it is considered a team activity and not volunteering. Examples: A freshman volleyball player keeping stats for varsity. Stage crews are considered a part of the production.
Overnight activities will be limited—you cannot count 24 hours a day—you do sleep and have some time when you are not in charge. Maximum hours per day may not exceed 16 hours.
Activities not considered volunteering:
Baby-sitting for individuals.
Activities and/or service hours which you are required/expected to complete as part of a club, organization, team or class. This includes:
Working at a fund-raising event for your team/club
NHS, FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Esports, and other club service hour requirements
Note: volunteer hours beyond the required/expected club service hours will be accepted with the approval and signature of the club advisor.
Confirmation hours
Hours leading towards an award.
Volunteering during school hours
Working (even if not paid) for a for-profit business
Activities for which you are chosen or selected
