Wendy was born in Utica, NY and attended Holland Patent High School. She then started at HCCC and then graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1979, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She attained her MS in 1983. Wendy began her teaching and coaching career at Mt. Markham schools in September of 1979
Wendy began her own athletic career in high school. She competed in field hockey, basketball, volleyball and softball at Holland Patent. At HCCC, she continued to play field hockey, volleyball and softball. In September of 1985, Wendy started coaching at VVS Schools. She retired after 33 year of teaching and coaching in 2012.
After 33 years of successfully coaching field hockey, volleyball, softball and basketball, she can be credited with winning 10 league, 9 sectional and two regional championships in the sport of field hockey. Her teams went to the NYS Field Hockey Final Four twice. Her overall career record is 378-112-85.
Wendy served as chairperson of PE, Health and Family-Consumer Science at VVS. She was a league chairperson for many years representing the Tri-Valley League Coaches. She has also served for several years and continues to volunteer for the Section III Field Hockey Committee. She has been awarded the Section III service award and the section III lifetime award in 1999.
Wendy has always been known as a fair and positive coach, outstanding teacher and friend. She has contributed much to the sport of the Field Hockey in our area. She has been a mentor to many, including many student teachers at VVS. Wendy's success has been achieved through much hard work and dedication and she is well respected by her students, athletes, officials, coaches and opponents. She was selected as the Mohawk Valley Coach of the Year in 2004.
In her last season, her team broke school records for goals scored in a single season, as well as season goals scored by an individual. She has coached many players who went on to play at the collegiate level and many players who went on to coach their own teams at various levels.
