I am currently enrolled in the Vocational Nursing program. I came to find this program as I started my journey in the Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP). I always loved helping and taking care of others, I just struggled to believe in myself.
The instructors and staff here were awesome, my NATP instructor made us aware of the VN program and its requirements. It was a goal that I knew I had to work extremely hard to achieve. I completed medical terminology with a wonderful instructor here at VAS, Marixssa. She also taught the Medical Assistant program and one I've also completed. I learned so much from the instructors; They are great. The administrators have a great support system for students here. I definitely recommend attending if you are thinking of expanding your knowledge in the medical field. They also offer many other great programs.
My children, spouse and grandparents have made the greatest impact on my life. My grandparents showed me their core values and I want to make them proud. They taught me to be the best version of myself. I know they are watching over me and would be proud to see me bloom into the nurse they knew I would be one day. I value integrity, honesty, devotion, caring, and truly believe that when someone loves what they do that makes a big difference. Always doing the right thing, and like someone wise said “ always take the high road” be the bigger person.
It is never too late to start, if you have the willingness and devotion you can do anything you set your mind to. I am planning on continuing my education and becoming an RN and also achieve my BSN along the way. I would love to one day become a Nurse practitioner but only time will tell. Remember we are the only ones stopping ourselves from achieving our goals. The hardest thing is starting when it is the right timing everything will fall into place. I am a mother of four beautiful children and I won't say it is easy but definitely doable and I know it will be well worth it when my children see me accomplish my program and pass the NCLEX. So if I can do it, so can you! I believe in you!
"Carolina alerted the nurse to possible serious medical complications by utilizing her keen assessment skills. She notified the on site nurse of possible complication's using her professional medical terminology in a manner that garnered respect and immediate action from the licensed nurse that was caring for the patient. Carolina overcame the fear of approaching the nurse and responded with advocacy for the patient. "

The program I am studying at VAS is very suitable for adults whose first language is not English. Students are trained to practice skills to improve their English level. The learning content is also related to themes, such as education, banking, shopping and communication. When I want to learn English, my daughter took me to this school. That is luck for me.
What I enjoy most about the ESL program is the organization and management of classes for different levels and students from different countries. It is a great effort from the principal and teachers here.
I realize my value is just eagerness to learn. Learn what I do not know. I'm 70 years old now and still don't know much. I would say that if immigrants live in Visalia, they should attend Visalia Adult School to study and develop themselves comprehensively. Moving forward, I plan to continue to attend VAS and hope to make many more friends here.
Thank you to everyone who helped me. Thank you especially to my teacher, Judy Moxley who wholeheartedly teaches me new works every day.
Nghia Cao
"Nghia started ESL last year but due to some personal issues, he had to quit ESL classes shortly after. He has returned this year to Intermediate Low ESL class. Nghia is from Vietnam and has shared with others about his inability/struggle to attend school as a young person in his homeland. He attends ESL class nearly everyday with enthusiasm and his precious smile. He doesn't hesitate to tell other students that they are so very fortunate to be able to attend school to improve their English. He is one of the kindest people I know. We are so glad to have him return to Visalia Adult School ESL class. "
