No. 24 Virginia Tech jumped into the national rankings thanks in part to a winning goal from No. 12 Tori Powell. (Virginia Tech Athletics)

The past two weeks have been rewarding for now-No. 24 Virginia Tech. Coach Chugger Adair’s team is riding a three-game winning streak and has won four of its past five games.

The Hokies (9-2-1, 3-1 ACC) are ranked in the Top 25 of the United Soccer Coach’s poll for the first time this season. Last season, Virginia Tech was ranked for two weeks, its highest ranking at No. 17.

Additionally, junior forward Tori Powell earned ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, the second time in her career she has won the award.

The junior bagged her sixth goal of the season in the 2-1 victory over then No 3 UNC. This goal was Powell’s 21st goal as a Hokie and her fifth game-winning goal with the program. The tally puts her one shy of entering the program’s record book for both total game-winning goals and total goals scored.

Nationally, freshman Taylor Price was named to the College Soccer Women’s National Team of the Week. The first-year attacker assisted Powell’s game-winner over the weekend.

Powell and Price are tied for the team-lead in goals with six apiece and are the offensive engine for a side that sits at 22nd in the nation in goals scored (29) and 18th in assists (28).

The Hokies join No. 2 UVa, No. 3 Florida State, No. 5 UNC, No. 7 Duke, No. 13 Pitt and No. 17 Notre Dame as ranked ACC teams. Tech currently holds a 1-1 record against these clubs, with its next outing against one taking place Oct. 13 against No. 2 UVa.
