2024 Pulaski County 4-H Camp

June 10-14, 2024

W.E. Skelton 4-H Center - Wirtz, Virginia

WHO CAN ATTEND?

4-H Camp is Pulaski County 4-H's #1 4-H summer activity and the opportunity for campers to have positive life changing experiences.  Campers try new things, make new friends, create lifelong memories, and gain the independence that comes from a week at 4-H Junior Camp.  Those experiences are the cornerstone of what 4-H is all about.  Join us this year as we make memories at 4-H Camp!

HOW MUCH DOES 4-H CAMP COST?

This year the camp fee is $375, which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit, and includes transportation, meals, snacks, lodging for four nights, a camp t-shirt, class supplies and evening program materials.

The $375 4-H Camp Fee can be paid by check or cash and more information about those options can be found on the Payment Page. We also offer limited financial assistance for those with a financial need.

WHAT DO CAMPERS DO AT 4-H CAMP?

Campers will rotate through three camp classes.  There is free swim and recreation time each day, as well as evening programs and campfire.

Each room will be a part of a pack which serves as the camper’s “family”  or "pod" during the week of camp.  There will be 32-48 campers/CITs/Teens/Adults to a pack.  More information about class tracks offered can be found on the Classes Page.

WHO SUPERVISES 4-H CAMPERS?

Each year we recruit Counselors in Training (CIT),(minimum of 13 years by January 1, 2024) and Teen Counselors (14 years and up by January 1, 2024) to serve as volunteer role models/leaders for our camp. These CIT's and teens, as well as our adult volunteer leaders, 4-H Extension Staff, and 4-H Center Staff, complete a training series and are tested on core concepts before attending camp. Background checks are conducted for those leaders 18 years of age and up.  Our all volunteer staff completes 24 hours of training and is trained according to the American Camp Association requirements and you can rest assured that your child will have a safe, enjoyable experience at 4-H Camp!

NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

Virginia’s 4-H camping program is recognized throughout the nation as a leader in 4-H camping programs. Each of the six Virginia 4-H Educational Centers has achieved and maintains American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation.

Parents and guardians should always look for the ACA seal when selecting a camp for their child to attend. Only about 25 percent of all camps in the nation are accredited by the ACA, the recognized camp accreditation organization in the United States. Having ACA accreditation means that the camp meets the highest standards for safety, food service and staffing, health care, and program quality.

Each 4-H Educational Center maintains these standards annually. Additionally, all 300 standards are reviewed every three years for reaccreditation. Each 4-H center program staff person, as well as the adult and teen 4-H volunteers who participate in camp, are carefully selected and trained prior to the camping event.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS

COVID Policy items to note before you register:

Currently there are no COVID restrictions for 2024 4-H Camp.

Creating a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment is a foundational principle of 4-H positive youth development.  To that end, we will support and make all individuals that choose to wear a mask/face covering feel welcome.

Note, a daily Health Check will occur on the morning of Monday, June 10, before we leave for 4-H Camp and will also occur every morning while at 4-H Camp.  Those experiencing signs of illness, fever or COVID like symptoms, will not be allowed attend and/or to stay at 4-H Camp.  We strongly discourage attendance by anyone sick or showing signs of illness within the last 14 days.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

Parents will car-rider style Drop Off their child(ren) at Riverlawn Elementary School, Monday, June 10, beginning at 7:00am, in a three-Stop process, staying in their car until Stop 3.

Parents will car-rider style Pick Up their children at Riverlawn Elementary School, Friday, June 14, at 12:30pm, also in a three-Stop process, staying in the car until Stop 3.

There will be 8 packs (groups) at 4-H Camp.  Lodges will be grouped together by packs with youth, Counselors In Training, Teen Counselors and Adult Leaders.  These groups travel together for meals, recreation time, and evening programs.  Youth travel separately to classes with guidance from Counselors In Training, Teen Counselors and Adult Leaders.

We will still have special evening programs and campfires, with most activities taking place outside, in the larger areas of camp and if we must allow for proper social distancing.  What happens if it rains?  Just like rainy days at camp in the past, we have plenty of activities, in large areas (indoors and covered outdoor space), to fill the time and maintain safety while continuing our fun.
