The goal of this course is to enhance the student’s well-being by creating a culture that integrates and balances the dimensions of wellness: social/environmental, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. Wellness emphasizes individual responsibility for well-being by making choices that will facilitate attainment of a higher level of health and fitness. It is an active process rather than a goal. It means becoming aware, developing attitudes and engaging in behaviors to make choices that enhance quality of life and maximize physical potential. This curriculum is designed to promote self-responsibility, motivation, and excellence in learning as well as a lifelong commitment to wellness. This course will include content on decision-making, nutrition and weight management, substance use and abuse, and it will explore the HIV/AIDS and STD curriculum provided by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Students also will be provided opportunities to explore current issues in health. The goal of this curriculum is for the students to acquire the knowledge and life skills necessary to make informed decisions regarding their health and well-being.
This course will be a purely asynchronous, self-paced course delivered via Schoology. Students enrolled in this summer course can expect to have required readings, projects, assignments, quizzes, and tests. There will be due dates for all projects, assignments, and assessments. Mrs. Black will be available throughout the duration of the course to answer questions, meet with students via Zoom, and offer help via email or Zoom. She will be in contact with registered students throughout the five weeks of the course. The textbook for the course will be on loan to students for over the summer.
The application for this course will open on Friday, February 13, 2026 and will be due by Friday, March 6. All applications will be reviewed by the Office of Academic Affairs and our Counselors. Each applicant's academic record will be reviewed to assess the potential of the applicant to successfully complete an asynchronous, online, self-paced course on her own time during the summer. Students will be notified by Friday, March 13 as to their admission status for the course. Those admitted will then be directed to the payment site.
