Mrs. Hawkins - English
I have been teaching English for twelve years, including a year in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, where I taught several different subjects to 7th graders. I have taught every grade level between 7th and 11th grades, and there are things I love about all of them. I received my Associate of Science degree from Salt Lake Community College, my Bachelor in English Teaching (with a Reading Minor) from the University of Utah, and my Master of Arts in Teaching (with specialization in National Board Certification) from National University. Before finding Vista and Rancho, I taught in Kearns, Utah, and in Ridgecrest, California.
I am a proud military wife. My husband is a Search and Rescue Medical Technician with the United States Navy. We have lived apart almost as much as we have lived together since our wedding almost ten years ago, and San Diego is our fourth new place in those years. We have two children, a 7-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. We love to use our annual zoo passes, spend the day at the beach, and find new ways to enjoy living in Southern California.
I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite books over the years have included Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Power of One/Tandia, Lamb and Dirty Job, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and many, many others. Besides reading, I love to do puzzles (jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and logic puzzles), spend time with my kidlets, and listen to music. I also spend a lot of my time and energy on raising awareness about cystic fibrosis and fundraising for Ben's Brigade.
