Counseling

Vision Charter Academy employs a full-time social-emotional counselor who is available to parents, students and staff on all campuses in all paths.

The School Counselor/ School Social worker is licensed to address short-term emotional and social issues for individuals or groups; assess and refer individuals for community resources; and present to groups or classes on emotional, social or mental health issues. The School Counselor/ Social Worker also is responsible for the training and delivery of the RULER emotional intelligence curriculum in grades k-8 and the LifeSkillsTraining in grades 9-10. The School Counselor/ Social Worker has also introduced emotional intelligence, resilience and trauma-informed practices and training to staff groups and individuals.

The School Counselor maintains office space and office hours at the Learning Center, but is available for emergencies and special projects other locations and in the community. Home based families may set up an appointment or access counselor services through a Highly Qualified Coordinator (HQC) or School counsely/ Social worker dircetly.


Meet Our Counselor

Kayleigh comes to Vision from NH. Before to coming to Vision Charter Academy Kayleigh worked as a Youth and Family therapist at a community mental health center. Kayleigh holds a master's degree in Social work and Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire. As well as an undergraduate degree in Adventure Education from Plymouth State University. Prior to graduate school Kayleigh has lived in OR working for a wilderness therapy program. Kayleigh has experience working with youth in a variety of outdoor education and therapeutic programs with youth.

Delta Learning Center -- Monday-Friday 8:00-4:00pm

Resource Center- Wedensday 9:00-11:00

Vision Charter Academy has adopted the Botvin LifeSkillsTraining program for grades 9 and 10 in the High School Seminar. This program is designed to help students explore key skills that are vital to building a healthy life. Any home based student, grades 9-12, may enroll in the LifeSkills Training program by contacting the high school advisor.

Vision Charter Academy has adopted the RULER Approach to Social and Emotional Learning in order to meet the Colorado state standards for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). RULER is rooted in emotional intelligence theory and research for both child/adult social, emotional, and cognitive development and is evidenced based. VCA aims to embed RULER into the curriculum and behavior support policies.

Vision Charter Academy has implmented Sources of Strength (SOS). This program is offered as an Elective class for out 7th and 8th grade students. This program is desgend to build up a group of Peer leaders who work with adult advisors to implment community chagne thought out the school. This progam support student led change for school climent. Peer leader postions are also offered to high school student as well.
