This project was extremely insightful and fun to put together. I explored how Twitter has affected politics in the United States, especially when it comes to voter engagement on Twitter. Using scholarly articles, I was able to track Twitter's use by prominent politicians, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.
The main findings of the acedemic literature included the following:
Twitter began as a unique way to provide an inside look at the presidency with President Obama
However, Donald Trump completely changed the way it was used during the 2016 presidential election
His non-traditional style of tweeting was able to have a large impact on his success in the 2016 presidential election
After four years with President Trump, and with a different social context, Twitter may not have been as significant in the 2020 election
