Tell me more about
Zuni Hills PTSO
and how to become a
PTSO Board Member
What does PTSO stand for?
Parent Teacher Student Organization
What is the purpose of the PTSO?
The PTSO exists exclusively to support Zuni Hills, by coordinating various fundraisers that allow us the opportunity to provide additional equipment, services and support to teachers and students, therefore, further enriching the learning experience. PTSO works with parents and faculty to organize and facilitate these family friendly events both during and after school hours in order to build a stronger community.
The PTSO is a separate entity from the PUSD and Zuni Hills Elementary, but we work collaboratively to provide the best experience to all. We are a licensed non-profit 501c3.
Who can attend general meetings and vote on items?
The PTSO hosts general meetings throughout the academic year (dates/times are voted on by the board annually). Parents, teachers and students are encouraged to attend. These meetings provide a forum for asking questions, sharing upcoming PTSO events and exchanging ideas in a friendly environment.
What do PTSO board members do?
Each board member has a set of responsibilities that are defined in the bylaws. The bylaws are reviewed, edited, and voted on every new school year. Board members are required to participate in scheduled board meetings, general meetings, attend PTSO functions, volunteer for other duties as needed, vote on or give feedback for ongoing activities throughout the year, and engage in regular discussions via text/BandApp to ensure the responsibilities of the board are met.
I work full time, can I still be on the Board?
Yes. Many of the board members hold full time jobs and are also responsible for other family/household obligations outside of their role as a board member.
Does Zuni HIlls PTSO charge monthly dues?
No, we do not charge monthly dues.
Who can attend a PTSO general meeting and vote on agenda items?
Current ZH Teachers, enrolled 6th- 8th grade students, and parents/guardians of enrolled students are all welcome to attend the monthly meetings and can vote on all agenda items.
K-5th grade students and other family members of students may attend meetings and give feedback but are not eligible to vote.
Can I still help out if I can’t commit to being on the board?
YES! The PTSO always needs additional volunteers to help to run events, collect donations, participate in subcommittees to plan future events and more. Adult volunteers must submit a level 1 fingerprint request to the district annually and be approved prior to volunteering on campus (excluding attending general meetings). Volunteers get free entry into PTSO events.
Where can I get more info?
If you are interested in applying for a PTSO Board position please attend the next General PTSO meeting. You can also email us at ZuniHillsPTSO@gmail.com and one of the current board members will get back to you as soon as possible. While PTSO is not directly affiliated with Zuni Hills or the Peoria Unified School District,
we work directly with both entities to ensure a collaborative and supportive experience for all involved.
We are a licensed non-profit 501(c)(3).
