Curiosity is what drives my research — curiosity about how atoms bond, how materials respond to light, and how we can shape invisible processes into meaningful technologies.

I’m Zubair Aslam, a CSIR-SRF and Ph.D. researcher in Physics at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. My work dives deep into metal-based chalcogenide thin films and nanomaterials, exploring their optical, electrical, and photoelectrical behavior. I specialize in tailoring material properties to serve futuristic applications — from photodetectors and phase-change memory to sensors and green photocatalysis.

I’ve worked with a wide range of tools — UV-Vis, SEM, XRD, DSC, I-V measurements, and more — but it’s not just about instruments. It’s about asking the right questions. What happens when you dope Se-Te systems with rare-earth or post-transition metals? Can we decode switching behavior from a microscopic texture? Can a nanomaterial help us detect toxins in water in seconds?

Some of my recent publications involve:

• Studying steady-state and transient photoconductivity in Se-based films under controlled light exposure.

• Tuning crystallization and conduction in quaternary chalcogenides.

• Designing carbon quantum dots for fluorescence-based sensing of explosives like picric acid.
