Zonta Club of Olympia chooses advocacy projects that are nonpartisan and nonsectarian.
Zonta International actively works to promote the status of women through its long-standing relationship with the United Nations and some of its agencies. It holds consultative status with the United States of America and maintains 10 United Nations’ representatives, making it a powerful force in the development of international policy.
Ending Child Marriage
Service Project for 2019-2024
Some 248,000 children as young as 12 were married in the U.S. between 2000 and 2010. The majority of marriages were young girls married to much older men.
As a founding member of the Thurston County Coalition Against Trafficking, Zonta Club of Olympia has advocated for the passage of multiple Human Trafficking bills, supported Washington Anti-Trafficking Engagement Days, held vigils for the victims of human trafficking and domestic violence.
We also advocate for victims of domestic violence through support of local organizations including Safeplace, the Family Safety Center, and Family Education and Support Services.
