And so the journey begins! 2 hours into our 7 and half hour Flix Bus travel and feeling good!
Joe's still slightly ill :( but I'm feeling good other than my sore back... shock! We have taken a look at some options of food tonight and Bruges is expensive! So sadly mussels and fries are off the cards tonight.
Looking forward to doing more blog posts and updating you all on our journey!
Speak soon!!
Bruges was so PRETTY and filled with fries and chocolate. The 16 dorm hostel was not actually bad. It was quiet and unsocilable, perfect for a travel day.
We mooched about in the evening and next morning, not to people who want to visit Bruges. All the lovely shops tend to be closed Monday-Wednesday but we did find a nice little speciality coffee roasters that served pastries, fresh orange, bread and cheese (pending vlog content) so we were sorted and set up for our day to travel over to our first workaway family!

We arrived in Bilzen on 7th October, we only stayed a week with our first workaway family but it was truly the best way to start our travels.
Everyone made us feel just at home. Eli picked us up from the station and brought us back to their pretty 'Anke' style house. We were introduced to Lucy and Celia who were also workawayers, who were full of beans and made settling in so much easier. Adan (Adantje) is Eli and Wim's son who we took care of from time to time but spent at lot of quality time together, playing and learning many dutch words from.
Niels, is Wim and Eli's co-housing friend, who we had many laughs with and could play pass the pigs with... although I think Niels may need more practice at this game 😉
Not in the photo, we met and worked with Eli's brother Wout, who showed us the gardening ways and inspired us with his vegan lifestyle. Also Eli's parents who took us apple picking and told us about all their past and present experience with workaway, their life and positive impact!
Today we did some apple picking, chestnut picking, and walnut picking. The walnut tree said to me in dutch "climb me Joe", so I climbed the tree. I must say, this may be the best tree I've ever climbed! Perfect amount of branches to grip and some tasty walnuts to snack on.
10/10 - tree review

Such a chill week here in Bilzen-Hoeselt. We made lots and lots of sweet chestnut jam and slasa verde 😛
Here is a photo of the lovely leaving hamper we got at the end of the week 🥹.
Homemade jams, salsa verde, apple rings, blackthorn spoon, apple sap, tomatillo seeds, maize, apple cake mix!
There's so many highlights to choose from!
Waking up in our cararvan, looking out the window to nature and hearing the birds. Slow mornings and yummy breakfast. Working outdoors, growing and harvesting whhat you eat. Playing with Adan. Social and family dinners every night! Free jumbo coffee !
Low light:
Only staying for one week!

Carrying all the jars of jams through Paris 😮💨 (worth it though).
Paris is busy! and filled with not so friendly people but for one night we could romanticise it and being there has made me (zoe) want to re-watch Emily in pars
And now we're in Reims!
After a short stop off en Paris to see some sights, we're now aboard the Peniche (barge) Cabourgh to help out with boat maintenance.
So far we've made a nice ritual of visiting a French bakery each day, and a little afternoon jog to keep up the bakery trips 😛
Today was the first event night on the barge... chilli challenge!
We met a lot of locals and some people who love the pain of chilli! We both ate the Carolina reaper pepper 😎... so spice!
2,000,000 scoville, no biggy.
Solo bike ride down the canal today. It was peaceful but hardwork so I had to stop off at a bakery. But can you believe this... my pain au chocolat only had one line of chocolat instead of two!
Sacrebleu!
It was yum though 😛
