Zakiya Hutchinson
School Counseling Portfoli0
Greetings, my name is Zakiya Hutchinson. I have over 20 years of experience working with children in a variety of educational and community settings. I currently serve as the Professional School Counselor at Panorama Elementary School in the Prince George’s County Public School System in Maryland.
My passion for working with children was inspired by watching my parents and grandmothers dedicate their careers to education. Through their example, I learned the importance of giving back and supporting the development of young people. Because of this, I have volunteered with several organizations that focus on issues impacting children and improving their quality of life.
Shortly after graduating from college, I worked with children and families at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and served with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), a national service program. These experiences enriched my professional background and allowed me to serve in both small towns and large cities from the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area to communities in the Southwest region of the United States. Those experiences helped shape my commitment to supporting students and families from many different backgrounds.
I believe my extensive experience and dedication to student development would allow me to contribute meaningfully to any counseling program. I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with a school community and continue enriching the lives of students.
