Zhongyun ("Phil") Zhou Eastern Scholar Professor (MIS) School of Econ. & Mgmt, Tongji University
Zhongyun (“Phil”) Zhou is an Eastern Scholar Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) at the School of Economics and Management at Tongji University. He holds two Ph.D. degrees from City University of Hong Kong (MIS) and University of Science and Technology of China (Management Science), where he also received a Bachelor’s degree.
Phil’s research focuses on the effective use of emerging digital technologies (especially those related to the Metaverse and AI) for good. His work appears in leading journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Journal of Business Ethics (JBE), European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), Information Systems Journal (ISJ), Information & Management (I&M), Decision Support Systems (DSS), Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), and Information Technology and People (ITP), among others. His work has been presented at conferences such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the Hawaiian International Conference on Systems Sciences (HICSS), the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), the ACM on Web Conference (WWW), and others.
He currently serves as a Senior Editor (SE) for both ISJ and ITP and as an Associate Editor (AE) for Electronic Commerce Research and Applications and Industrial Management & Data Systems. He has served as an AE at ISJ (2020-2023), a guest SE at ISJ (Special Issue on QCA), and a guest AE at JMIS and ISJ. Phil regularly serves as track co-chair and AE or on the program committee for multiple AIS/AIS-affiliated conferences such as ICIS, PACIS, AMCIS, ECIS, and WHICEB. He has been a mentor for the junior faculty consortium at PACIS and an active participant as a mentor at recent ISJ trending topics workshops.
Dr. Zhou teaches (or has taught) IS courses such as Data Science for Business, Business Intelligence, AI for Business, Fundamentals of AI Science and Technology, Internet Thinking and Big Data Analytics, Data-Driven Decision Making, Management Information Systems, Information Systems and Information Resources Management, E-Commerce, and Business Research Methodology. He has written multiple teaching cases (published by Ivey and ChinaCases) and received the Finalist Award of the Global Contest for the Best China-Focused Cases.
Phil has received multiple awards during his career, such as the Youth Innovation Award by the China Information Economy Society and the Best Paper Award (or Finalist) by ICIS, HICSS, PACIS, CSWIM, ICEB, Chinese Academy of Management annual conference, CCF Digital Finance Conference, and others. His work has been covered/featured by media and industrial forums such as CCTV and World AI Conferences.
