Hi, I’m Zhiqi Tang. I’m a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the Control Systems and Robotics group at the University of Manchester (UoM). Before joining the UoM, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. I hold a double PhD in Automatic Control and Robotics from Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal) and I3S-CNRS, Université Côte d’Azur (France).
My research focuses on bridging control theory with real-world impact in robotics and transport systems. I investigate novel principles in nonlinear dynamical systems, cooperative control, and networked multi-agent systems, and how these can enable autonomous systems to operate more safely, intelligently, and efficiently in real-world environments. I’m particularly fascinated by swarms of robots and drones performing challenging tasks (such as search and rescue or surveillance missions), as well as delivery robots and connected automated vehicles navigating complex traffic scenarios.
