Our new net zero goal extends our ongoing efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. It's an aspirational target, reflecting our confidence that advancements in technologies such as long-duration storage, carbon capture and sequestration, hydrogen generation and small modular reactors will emerge as cost effective options. But it also builds on the real results we've achieved since 2020, when TEP committed to reducing CO2 emissions 80 percent by 2035.

You can also help us work toward net zero carbon emissions by going solar, either with a rooftop solar array or by participating in our GoSolar Shares program. Driving an electric vehicle can also reduce the carbon emissions associated with transportation, contributing to a smaller carbon footprint for our entire community.

Why I Picked It Up: We are very into superheroes in our house right now. I found Zero the Hero while browsing at the library and since it had a with the cape on the front, I ran it by my 4-year-old. He decided numbers could be superheroes too, and that we should check it out.

UT Austin's Zero Waste Hero Certification is a self-paced certification program on Canvas that provides a unique opportunity for current UT students to prepare to be role models for others and learn more about zero waste on campus. Students will learn about a variety of zero waste topics at their own pace, including recycling, reducing food waste, composting, and more. This knowledge is then reinforced through individual practice opportunities and UT Action Hours. This free certification is co-managed by Resource Recovery and University Housing and Dining with developmental funding from Green Fund.

Many zero waste programs and projects are hosted by other UT departments and rely on volunteers for their success. You can reach out to the organizations directly, or join the Zero Waste Hero self-paced certification program to access a calendar of on-campus volunteer opportunities such as:

The The Resource Recovery Student Internship Program promotes students to make a direct and tangible impact on our campus with a focus on support to classroom and office building staff and faculty, as well as provides the opportunity to develop the skillset necessary to transition from college to the workforce. Interns develop leadership, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills in the process of providing valuable insight to zero waste initiatives, assisting in project development and implementation, and serving as an incubator and testing organization for new ideas.

Resource Recovery supports classroom projects, Sustainability Studies internships, Capstone Projects, and BDP Connecting Experiences which can directly benefit our program and your resume. Students can apply their skills to real world problems. Reach out to us at ResourceRecovery@austin.utexas.edu to discuss how zero waste fits with your coursework requirements.

So it was July 2018, I arrived home just in time to see my hero, Quincy Larson, speak a the keynote speaker at LevelsConf. It was at LevelsConf that I began the final stage of my journey to my first developer job. A few of the bigger tech companies had set up booths in the lobby, and I spoke to a few of them about what application processes look like, how to best prepare, etc.

Zero to Hero is an on-going post series which uses those same materials but simplifies the content and uses language that you can understand. We are going to start from zero and make you an Admin Hero!

I am very happy you make me understand how to become hero from zero. I am DEV401 Certified but also eager to know about Administration as well, both practically and theoretically. You are making so simple. I am very happy. I hope you will make me HERO very soon. ?

ML All right, so now let's move up. What happens beyond that? Because, broadly speaking, there's two schools of thought, I guess. One is, it's going to go hydrogen... Well, I suppose there's going to be, all sustainable airline fuels - in other words, Jet A, but made in a different way - that's zero carbon, and then there's another school of thought that says no, no, it's all going to go hydrogen. And the third school, maybe we should frame it like this, that says, actually, it'll sort of segment, and there'll be some chunk will go to hydrogen and some chunk that will go to sustainable airline fuel, Jet A equivalent.

RM I think... I am optimistic. We are going to have to fly less in the West. But, pre-pandemic, only 11% of the world's population flew in 2018, and we can't deny the rising middle class in Asia, Africa and South America the right to travel. And so, even if we massively cut air travel in the West, overall, air travel is going to grow in the world. And the sort of cultural good, and good of communication that comes from that travel, I agree with you, we need to maintain. And I'm very positive that when we really put our mind to it, we can produce an aviation sector which has zero climate impact. 2351a5e196
