If any issues with my mods ping me on Discord, Zebuta
Congratulations! You are on the texplus tutorial page! Now before I explain anything, know this. My guides are only in English, so if you struggle to understand this, please use translation software to get an understanding of my guides! Also, this is only for Honey Select 1; no other Illusion games are covered here.
For this version of my guide, you may need a few modding tools, just an image editing software of your choice, Notepad or Notepad++, and Blender or Substance Painter. I'll be using the image editing software "GIMP" because I am familiar with it and Blender because I'm familiar with its texture painting tool. You can use whatever you want.
The default texture is low-res, and the size for it is 1024 x 1024. High-res is a far better option in my opinion. The textures will look better and not be so ugly as hell. This size for high-res textures is 4096 x 4096. The sizes are for the face texture and body textures only.
Eyes, Tongue, and teeth are far different. Plus the male teeth are an overhead view of the texture map. For now I will be discussing the body and face areas only. I'm pretty sure once you get an understanding of my guide you'll know how the rest of the textures work.
Most of this was copied from Joan's Texplus Plugin guide. Please read below thoroughly.
There are similarities with the old format. Still, there are new things:
- customAlphaMask (optional): if specified, said texture will be used instead of the Albedo's alpha channel.
- linear (optional): if specified, forces the texture to be read as linear or gamma. Valid values are "true" and "false". If you ignore this setting, PNG textures will be considered linear and DDS textures will be considered gamma.
Finally, here is the complete list of valid texture names in the new format:
- bodyTex
- bodyTexN
- bodyTexS
- bodyTexOM
- faceTex
- faceTexN
- faceTexS
- faceTexOM
- irisTexL
- irisTexR
- eyeWhiteTexL
- eyeWhiteTexR
- tongueTex
- teethTex
Use whatever texture suits your tastes. I'll be using this Tiger fur pattern as an example (highlighted in the green box). I will be putting this on the female body for this guide. If you are a member of the Illusion soft Discord server be sure to download the texture UV Maps I uploaded there. It'll help you in the long run for Texplus modding.
Next step: open up the UV map (highlighted in the green box) in whatever image editing software you are using. Because I'm familiar with it, I'll be using GIMP for this guide. Just basically use something that can export .PNG files.
Okay, so the UV map is opened now. Let's get cooking!
Now the best course of action to do (Whatever image editing software you're using has this feature.) is to lock the movement and drawing brush so that you don't accidentally edit over the UV map because if you export the UV map you accidentally drew on, you are going to be waiting awhile for it to export. (Stupid me did this when I was a noob. lol)
The icons you see here. (highlighted in the green box) are the things we need to lock.
As I mentioned before, I wanted to use that tiger fur texture for this guide. So let me open that up.
Go back to the UV Body Map and make a new layer. I'll place it somewhere on the body I think will look decent.
For the moment, I think its in a decent spot. So let's go create a Texplus mod folder for it so we can see how it looks in Honey Select 1.
This folder route (highlighted in the green box) Is your own mod folder. So for here you want to save your texture to this folder. I named it albedo.png because it will be easier for the plugin to recognize it without issues.
Next, open up Notepad or Notepad++ to you need to edit the string line to ensure the texture will be recognized by the Texplus plugin.
Erase all the unnecessary bits EXCEPT the last string! Because if you accidentally erase this it will just be an empty folder with nothing showing up except the name.
After you're done. Save the file and boot up Honey Select 1.
Now when the female character is spawned, press the "J" key; this will bring up the Texplus menu. Don't worry, it has a search bar to look for your Texplus mod encase you installed a lot of them, like I did. XD
As you can see the minute I was going to type down "Tutorial", my mod is listed, but does it work?
Excellent. If you follow my guide thus far, then your mod was successful.
But... texture looks a little boring, right? You want it to look even better? Well, let's do just that!
Okay, so whatever model software you using, be it Blender, Substance Painter or whatever. Something that can texture paint, trust me it will make this tutorial easier. Open up a body mesh. Encase you don't have the models you can get them HERE. The models are in .FBX format so you can pose them with ease.
Now in Blender or whatever you are using. Click on the mesh so that you are only choosing that and not the bones. The mesh should be the only thing highlighted.
While the mesh is highlighted. Click on the beach ball-looking icon that is the material properties. This is important so that your texture can be read on the mesh in Blender.
Now that you are in the material properties, you're going to need a material, of course. So click the button right there saying + New/Add a new material.
Poof! A new material slot is added! Don't worry about naming that material slot, its not important for now. Unless you want to do that, then that's on you.
Now you want to click here. This is where we need to add our texture. (highlighted in the green box)
This window will pop up with many options. The only one you need for the texture is the "image texture" node, so click it, and a little folder icon should be there instead of the white color.
Also click the viewport shading, It will be easier to see the texture you're working with and as I stated above the folder is now present!(both highlighted in the green box) I Click the folder icon to open your texture. This is where the real fun begins.
The loaded texture will look the same as it did in Honey Select 1. Which was very dull. So let's go and improve that!
Click up here. and scroll down to the "Texture Paint" button. This will enable the TexDraw mode.
Now click on the stamp symbol between the hand pointing and the bucket. This is the Clone/Cloning tool, and in my opinion, it's your best friend in Blender, so get used to it.
Pick a spot you want to clone on your texture. For this tutorial, I want it to spread to the left breast and left shoulder. So press the Ctrl key and the right mouse button; this will clone or cut out a spot of the texture you want to draw. As you will see there is a ridicule there.
This part is kind of basic, but just draw until you think you're done. You'll likely get seams in some parts of the mesh, so just keep drawing in until they are gone/dimished.
Click on the upper-left editor type button and click on UV Editor.
Click on the image editor and load your texture in the editor.
Click the image button and save your texture.
Now go back into Honey Select 1. Your female model will still be using that dull texture, so here's what to do. Click the "Refresh All" button to reload/update the texture.
Oh la la, now that texture is better looking than that plain square, right? I colored it to make it look nicer.
Want to do more than just a plain texture? How about a normal map? Want to give your texture that 3D wrinkle look? Then please continue reading. Keep in mind that for this part of the guide, normal maps are sometimes trial and error, and seams may be present. You may have to go back and adjust the textures until the seams are gone.
Go back to GIMP or whatever image editing software you are using. Open the texture.
With GIMP or whatever image editing software you are using. Click the Filters>Generic>Normal Map This will create a normal map. It will look blue; this is normal. You can grayscale it if you wish, but to me this worked either way.
A window will pop up. This is the Normal Map settings. I adjusted my scale to 75 and checked the box that said Flip Y. In my opinion it would suit my needs. Important note: don't scale it too high; it will look really pixelated or very ugly. YOU adjust what you think will look good. Don't exactly copy me that's not learning a thing!
After all the settings are adjusted, turn the opacity down to 50 percent. This is the best option in my own efforts to get the normal maps to look decent in Honey Select 1.
After that, save the texture; I'll name it albedoN for the Texplus plugin to read it easily. You can name it what you want.
Open your notepad or notepad++ to add the normal map.
After that save the notepad and go back to Honey Select 1 again and reload the Texplus mod.
Same as before hit the refresh all button.
There we go! Looking mighty fine, don't you think? There might be some minor seams that can be fixed... Well anyway you get the picture I hope... if you endured this long enough until the end of this guide. Congrats to you, and now you just learned how to make some kick-ass textures, so go create some rad stuff!
