The next big step to finishing, so as we've not got long left until the deadline, it's time that we (as in the entire team) all start compiling all of our work assets that we've done into one Unity project.
We've all chosen that the game will be compiled on my version of Unity, since I hold the multiplayer code and that is the main bit that needs sorting out after everything is compiled.
So we are currently in the process of getting Alex's map, fully rendered map into the game to swap out from the block out, so it all looks really fantastic now.
Now my main concern, only part of it now, is it's assembled in separate assets, so things like the windows, the outer walls, inner walls, part of the building that is done for the map is all separate and one separate prefabs, but as everyone's optimizing it and putting it all together on my Unity version, I'm left without access to my laptop because it's all being done on my laptop, so I'm unable to do any work for today until it's all done.
At the end of the day, we've only got part of Alex's objects in, so what's currently in is building one, which is a small building that I'm pretty sure Kyle has made and rendered and put in.
Building two, which is a massive building that is in parts but goes together nicely, see photos to have a look at them and now what needs touching up for the map side of things, so I still need to wait, is barriers, containers, crates and just little objects here and there that needs to be added to make the environment less plain and flat, so that will be done next week on second to final week of the project, so now it's time to really, really put our heads down and make sure we get our final product out there.
We also need to put in the updated scrips for Josephs and Mitchells into the game as well as they are more fine tuned and brings new gameplay elements but that will be its own separate log.
My only wish so far is that I wish I got some of the assets ahead of time, so I could call it in because I'm having a feeling that I'm going to really stress with putting, adding up the Leaderboards stuff that I wanted to do because as I'm thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to recode and tweak my own parts of my own code to make sure it's compatible with others code like Mitchell's grappling system and new movement system that he's done and Joseph's weapon code that he's done.
My next step once all this is done is of course tweak the code, make sure it all works, mainly get the game into a working state, that is my final objective when it's coming to working on a unity.
Now I really should think about my next plan such as how to present this work.
I was thinking about doing some photos, but I don't think photos or screenshots is going to portray the game very well.
A video was my second idea, but then it's just playing gameplay with nothing else.
So I've asked my teacher's advice and he's recommended me that I should do a showreel and to me that seems like a brilliant idea.
So then I could show some at working and then show after that how it's made and how it worked and why it worked and doing all of that and I want to main bit of the showreel, I want the multiplayer working so that all many people are running around in the unity editor, out the unity editor, so I'm going to have to record a lot of perspectives for this and I'm going to have to dedicate a lot of time into focusing on this project so I think I'm going to cancel my plans and Get my head really into this.
So, as this week is coming to a close, there's some things I wish I would have given them instead of it all happening on my laptop.
I should, I wish, Alex and Kyle imported their assets on their own version of Unity into another scene and then handed that scene to me so it can import it to my project and just extract the parts that should be in the new one because the problem with this is now that it's being done on my laptop, I can't work on it to make sure little tiny things get tweaked to make sure it works like collisions and all that to make sure that no one's falling through or anything's just letting you break the game entirely.
I also need to add invisible walls to make sure no one clumsily falls off the edge because I do not have a safeguarding feature to bring them back.
But if I would have given them my project for them to put it on or their assets on and then just handed me it back so I can tweak a bit of code here and then just import the code that I did to the new one.
I don't think it was a really smart decision to do it on my laptop because now I'm sat idle letting time go by so I need to crunch some more time, get some more things going, really catch up.
I want to do the best that it comes so I need to make sure I'm doing the best I am.
