We exist to raise funds for families in Johannesburg, South Africa who are in need of healing and reconnection after experiencing mental health diagnoses within their family.
We are dedicated to providing compassionate support to families facing Mental Health challenges.
We believe in the power of connection and offer opportunities for families to reconnect through Equine Therapy, and through assistance with alleviating the financial burden of specialised medical and science backed therapy.
We are driven to be of service to families who have experienced severe crisis, through a major life disruption and to create a safe and nurturing experience where families can heal and learn to thrive together in the face of these challenges without shame nor guilt.
Equine Therapy can include the caring for, riding, training, observing and interacting with horses to support a variety of mental health conditions from alcoholism and addiction to depression and disordered eating.
Studies have indicated its effectiveness across age groups; adolescents with depression and anxiety have shown a 60% improvement in symptoms after a 12-week programme, while 80% of veterans with PTSD reported a significant reduction in symptoms.
Interacting with horses creates a non-judgmental environment for self-expression and has been shown to reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and decrease stress, whilst improving interpersonal skills, enhancing self-esteem and confidence, and increasing mindfulness and presence.

Metabolic Psychiatry uses ketogenic, dietary lifestyle changes and other metabolic interventions in order to improve and heal various mental health disorders.
There is a vast network and growing body of research and results internationally of which South African psychiatrists are now also embracing. Help will be provided for local psychiatry and also if necessary for access to international doctors working in this field.
"For people living with serious mental illness like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, standard treatment with antipsychotic medications can be a double-edged sword..."

Mental health diagnoses in a parent can have a long term effect on entire family systems (intergenerational/ epigenetic). The adult children of these parents can often become ill for life and/or have a predisposition for low socioeconomic status. Overall often struggling to make a "good" life.
The Foundation can be supported through the fundraising pathway and will be officially registered in the UK once we reach the minimum required threshold per annum.
We will be opening applications to families for assistance once we have raised enough funds.
