Interesting Story Title
“Suspect is driving down the road! He’s armed and dangerous, I need backup now!” Bob yelled into the police radio as he gave chase, the tires of his cruiser squealing on the pavement. “Suspect is approximately average height. With… a face. You know, one of those faces people have.”
“Thanks for the detailed description, sending four units your way,” came the crackling response of his captain, Jim. “Um… where the heck are you? I need a location!”
“I am also driving down the road,” Bob responded as he slammed on the brakes, screeching to a stop at the red light, his siren blaring. The person in the car next to him looked at Bob nervously. Bob waved cheerfully at them.
“Got it,” Jim’s voice replied through the radio. “Backup will be arriving shortly.”
“Cool. Thanks man, I owe you one.”
“Yay! I love it when people owe me favors,” Jim’s voice said happily. “You can take me to get a drink tonight. You’ll have to take me home though, you can drive better while drunk than I can. Alright, seeya.”
Bob turned off the police radio as a car behind him honked. What is that jerk’s problem? Bob wondered as he looked ahead at the road. Shoot, the light’s green, Bob realized. He began accelerating only to realize the car he had been chasing was nowhere to be seen. “There’s no way he got away,” Bob muttered angrily. “I was right on his tail the whole time.”
Bob slowed his vehicle to a crawl and rolled down the window, waving his hand at a nearby pedestrian. “Did you see which way he went?”
The pedestrian blinked. “Who?”
“The guy I was chasing!”
“Oh. Um… no. But I saw a cat today.”
“Thanks, good to know.”
Bob rolled the window back up as he reached again for the police radio. “Today on Police Radio,” came a voice from the radio. “There is no news today because I don’t pay attention to what’s going on. You are listening to Police Radio.”
“Wrong radio,” Bob said under his breath, shutting it off before turning on the correct police radio. He really needed to label his police radios.
“Suspect has escaped somehow,” he said into the radio. “I repeat: suspect has escaped. I no longer need backup.”
It’s getting late, he thought as he once again turned off the radio without even waiting for a response. I should go pick up Jim to go grab a few drinks at the bar. I hope I don’t get caught on the way home.
The end.
