Kriss Reece

Kriss Reece was born and raised in the state of New Jersey for 13 years, eventually moving to Nebraska September of 2022. She is a proud incoming junior of Northeast High School and the JROTC. She discovered the freedom of writing at just 6 years old. She fell in love with it and made a vow to make it part of her career when she (eventually) graduates high school. Beauty and the Ugly of the Past

A butterfly wings so beautiful

But just not enough to fly

Instead being held up

As if it’s a bad example

I would walk to Vine street

But every direction is like a message of bad decisions

They tick out like arms of the past haunting me

A compass giving me directions

But never going before 12

With 7 packs of honeycomb

A year is shed

Looking like a gear

Maybe a washing machine

For the past that asked for me

A hand belts as it reaches

For the tools

The stars taunt it

Wishing for death and destruction

A peaceful life would do

Maybe a windmill

Or just the simple farm life

The cow has cried out

As it sweats from the heat

Begging for more water

Coffee is in the ear

It’s burning burning burning

Love is a cruel ingredient too

But it’s delicious

The Cauldron

The sun was out and my brother was playing. We went into the forest. “TAG YOUR IT!” he screamed. I chase after him but then all the sudden I just feel in with no warning. It was like falling into a dark pit. “I’ll get help!” my brother shouted. And I heard his footsteps. He was panicking. I looked around and my eyes were greeted by a door. Strange. I thought sinkholes do not have doors. Against my own judgement I opened the door. Hi, I’m Sherry, and I will tell you how my life changed forever.

You think it was more rocks and first right? WRONG. It was what I thought was a cottage at the time. I went in and made the deadly mistake by shutting the door. When I got a better look I saw weird liquids, some were red, some were brown and others a weird shade of blue and yellow put together. They were scattered around like trophies. Some had melted wax like candles on them, others were just left untouched. I shouted “hello” like I was looking for a lost puppy or dog. Right then on que was that all the candles were light even the ones close to melting. I then heard a laugh like something was accomplished and I was lost and confused all at once. Then by some stairs I saw a man who was wearing a weird blue robe. It was like he came out of the shower but completely dry. Like he was so comfortable in that robe he said he would just wear it. He smiled when he saw me like we were long lost buddies. “I see you witnessed my tricks!” he grinned from ear to ear. I looked at him completely confused. He became slightly annoyed like I just told him his middle school project sucked. “Do you even know who I am?!” he demanded. “Uh no? You're just a man in a robe.” He rolled his eyes. “I’m Magica!” “That's your name? Even my dog can name things better than your parents. I mean they just stared at you and said your name was Magica?!” “Whatever, why are you here anyway?” “I just fell here I thought this was supposed to be a sinkhole?” “Oh nonsense. This is my super cool hideout. Or a caldron most call it. “Cool, can you use your abracadabra spells to lift me up from this hole? I can show off to my brother that I did it all by myself.” “Well, I can try to come up with something. Try opening that door first.” I rolled my eyes to open the door.

I expected to see the rocks and pebbles. Instead I was given a rude awakening to a cold arctic blast in my face! I slammed the door right away. “WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED!” “It moves every five minutes and looks like the five minutes were up.” “SERIOUSLY!?!” I shouted. He nodded with a viscous grin. “MY FAMILY!” I cried. “Like you needed them anyway” my face became hot and red. “YOU'RE A MONSTER!” “No, I’m not, I’m a wizard.” “Can you at least be able to take me back there, at least?” “I don’t know if I can.” I let out a scream. I just watched my grandma die. I cried like never before. “Why would you do this to me?!” I cried. “Don’t blame me, blame me. It’s not my fault you walked into my caldron and did not know my name.” “How was I supposed to know! You could have just pushed me out! Sure, I would have called you a jerk but at least I could have waited for some kind of rescue to save me!” “You really love blaming your problems on me and others huh?” I gritted my teeth in anger. “Listen, I can try to help you get to your stop but to get to that exact area it may take around 71 hours and 50 minutes.” “YOUR KIDDING?!” “I wish.” “I let out some air in defeat.” “Dear life, why do you hate me so much?” “ma’am my name is Magica.” “I know, I just want a sign.” I said gritting my teeth. “How about I cut a deal with you.” I looked up attentively. “You stop blaming me for this mess and help me out every now and then, and I will find a way to get you home to your family.” I wiped my tears away. “Thank you” I said, smiling and grabbing onto his leg. He awkwardly gave me a pat on the back.

I then got up and sat down on one of the hard wooden chairs. “So first we need to stop at the wizards' mind shop for how to levitate people and to get this caldron to go back to a place quicker.” “But what if this one goes poof?” I asked attentively. “It won’t. Not without me at least. It doesn’t move unless I’m in there.” I nodded. “When will we get there?” “When the stop feels right. Trust me I have memorized all of the stops and what they feel like. How about I fix you a coffee?” I smiled and nodded. He went to his tiny kitchen and I heard the boiling water. Around 15 minutes later he placed his tray down on the small wooden table. We shared our cheers as if it was a business meeting. And it turned out, Magica wasn’t so bad. He just wants to be noticed and loved by everyone he’d known and met. I asked him about the weird liquid he owned. He told me they could turn you into something incredible. Whatever that meant. After the little tea party, Magica rose and headed for the door. He peeked outside and motioned me to follow him. When he revealed what was behind the door my jaw fell to the floor.

I saw everything you aren’t supposed to see in your local Walmart. Literal sparks were flying everywhere. I think I saw an elephant just hanging out by some books. I saw people in all shapes and forms roll in. Some were green as Granny Smith apples. While I saw some with oddly shaped skin textures. I could tell I was definitely the odd one out. “Hey Jashlere! I need your help!” I then heard the wheels rolling. Coming towards us was a lady with rainbow hair and polka dotted clothing rolled by. “Ah, Magica!” What can I do for you?” She said it in this baby voice. I almost thought that she was his girlfriend. “This girl fell into my caldron and I need your help to get her home.” “Ok, what do you need?” “Well, I need a book on how to levitate people, and how to make the caldron travel to an area you want to land in.” She nodded attentively. “Hmmm. I’ll see what I can do.” She was still using that baby voice the entire conversation she had with him. I couldn’t take it. “Can you use your normal voice?” She gave me a confused look. “What are you talking about?” This is my normal voice.” I looked at Magica all confused. He then looked at me and said “she’s sounded that way ever since she swallowed a baby doll’s voice box.” “That’s right! And I don’t plan on changing it!” “Why not?” I asked. “Well, I feel that’s just a core part of me. That’s what makes the part about me fun!” She smiled showing her baby teeth which were crooked in all the wrong places. I almost felt sorry for her but I remember that she wanted this and it made her happy. “Anywho, enough of me. Let’s try to find a way to get you home!” She skipped to some kind of desk that looked like a unicorn threw up all over it. And honestly I believe it. “Ohhhhh Hendra!” “Hendra?” “Shh” Magica hissed.

“Let me help you.” In unison Magica and Jashere shouted. “OHHH HENDRA!!” Then I saw what looked like tootles from Mickey Mouse appears. Except it looked like one big heavy brown depressing book. “Hello! Jashere what can I get you?” He said it in this goofy tone. As if we were talking to Mickey Mouse. “We need your help!” Jashere squealed.? “This is…uh? Tell me your name again.” “I’m Sherry.” “Thank you l. Anyway, like I was saying. Sherry fell into Magica’s caldron and it teleported them out of their home!” Hendra thought for a moment. “So what do you need from me?” “We need to know a quicker way to get to Magica’s caldron to go back to that sinkhole and how to levitate people.” “Hmmmmm” it stuff there for a moment. “Let’s see what u can do.” Hendra then started flipping its pages aggressively. Then it stopped. “I found something in Leviton. It then became wider, almost like a projection. Symbols appeared that I didn’t recognize. not a signal English word was present. I felt so invisible like I was an alien to them. “Hmmm. Jashere can I try this on you?” Magica asked. “Yeah go ahead.” He then pulled out what looked like a stick. At the time, it didn’t dawn on me that it was his wand. “Eee-tat-eh-vell” a spark came out hitting Jashere. A spark came out hitting Jashere. Her feet left the floor while some sort of cloud covered her. She giggled as she was floating. As Magica Moved his wound so did she. She moved up, down and all around. She was then placed to the ground and the cloud disappeared. She was still giggling. “Do it again!” She squealed “next time, I promise.” “Ok. Hendra, can you find a way for a caldron to stay in one spot?” Hendra flipped for what felt like an eternity.

It then just slammed shut. “Weird? I can’t find anything?” Jashere, Magica and I were confused. “What do you mean you can’t find anything?” I cried. “I mean I can’t find anything.” The air around me grew thick and heavy. “Ong no! Please, find something I can’t be stuck here forever!” I’m sorry Sherry.” I cried fearing I would never see my family or friends. Magica patted my back.? “Hendra, is there another way we can get answers? Like another book?” Jashere asked quietly. “Hmm” Hendra thought “yes” I stopped my tears. “Where?!” I asked dramatically. “Not in this store.” “So I have to call the Wackeraibs to get this book?” “No.” Hendra sighed. “You’ll have to meet with..” with who?!” Magica asked. “Lordbell” Jashere and Magica’s faces went white as a ghost. “What’s Lordbell?” I asked. “A god…. Of death.” Magica sighed. “WHAT!” I screamed. “Does that mean I can’t go home? I asked. Magica started into space for a long time and said. “No we can at least try:” “you think he’ll help you?” Jashere asked, confused. “Well I’m not asking for help, Sherry is! We can at least try.” Jashere sighed. she then nodded at Magica. “Trust me. you will go home soon.” I believed him. I then heard a loud noise. The store then began to disappear along with Magica and Jashere. I then opened my eyes. It was my warm bed. I need 5 more minutes to see what happens next.

The end.

The Maze

Mazes have different directions

Some make you go left

Or right

Some will make you go forward

Some people will have cheat sheets if they’re fortunate

While the unfortunate will have to stumble their way out.

They will either follow you hoping you know the way

Or take the risk on their own

Most directions end up with a dead end you can’t blow up

Most people stop there

But others choose to go back because

There is always a way out

Life may take you to dead ends

But it is not about how fast it is to get there.

It's about the journey of making it out alive.

Room 405

I was driving home from a very funny trip I was on. It was very dark that night. The crescent moon and stars were hiding behind the clouds. I parked closer to the entrance. As I got out of my car the patches of grass were weird. Some were much brighter, some were dark, or they were just brown. I ignored it. Maybe it was just the lighting? I then creaked open the dark, blood-like red door to enter and was greeted with the most disgusting smell I’ve ever smelt. It was like all the rotten milk in the world had been opened all at once. I then saw the front desk guy, he had short grey hair, patches of facial hair and an eye patch. The eye patch didn’t scare me, it was the other eye that did. A black mixed with a dark red eye. I should have left right then, but I didn’t. I then walked up to him and said “hello, a room for 1 night please.” He rolled his eyes, then practically threw the key at me and said “stairs to the right.” I then walked to the right hallway. I almost commented about his crappy service but I was tired and didn’t feel like making a scene. I had climbed my way up to the fourth floor. Room five. As I cranked my way to the stairs the smell only got worse. The chill in my spine only grew colder as I climbed more steps. I felt like gagging but I just wanted to go to sleep so I could leave and give it a bad review. When I got to my room, I fell right down on my bed ignoring there were bugs all over the walls. I then slept for a good 3 hours. When I heard this creaking, I checked the clock: 3:24am it read. I thought it was just the pipes so I went back to sleep. 2 minutes later I heard more creaking. I ignored it again. After another creek happened I rose from my bed. I used my phone as a flashlight. The bugs were gone. I looked closer and saw a dark shadowy figure. I felt something move. I looked closer by my door and saw nothing. I sighed in relief. I turned around but it was a mistake. BAM! It was the last sound I heard. My soul has been here ever since. He assigned the same room to every solo person who comes here. And we share a drink, that’s our fate.

Spider-Man vs Peter Parker

Spider-Man, spider-Man

Does whatever a spider can

Does he do it right though? He’ll never know

Spider-Man wins but Peter Parker loses

It’s like a battle where it’s the same ending every single time.

Spider-Man wins

While Peter Parker suffers

Spider-Man saved children from a falling shaft

But Peter Parker failed to save Mary Jane when she was scared for him and ultimately ends her life

Spider-Man managed to stop Green Goblin for good

But lost his father figure, Norman Osborn.

Henry Osborn hates Spider-Man for what happened to his father.

How could Peter tell him who spider man really is?

Jonna Jamison is angry at Spider-Man all the time for property damage and for doing the police’s job.

While he is also thinking about firing Peter for his lack of commitment to him.

Spider-Man has stopped Doctor Octopus

But Peter is facing eviction for not contributing enough

Spider-Man doesn’t show emotions

But Peter needs help but can’t cry out because no one will understand.

Spider-Man is mature

Peter Parker is always painted as an immature 23 year old, college dropout out and is always getting into trouble.

Spider-Man will never have a worry because he knows how the day ends

Peter is anxious about citizens calling him out and recognizing him.

Spider-Man saves the day once again like he always does

While May still wonders why her nephew is out and is thinking about sending him to rehab because she believes she lost her nephew to drugs.

Spider-Man holds everything through his webs and fists.

While Peter is crushed with everything that Spider-Man does.

Believing it’s his own fault.

He always asks, is being a hero worth it?

Because only one civilian suffers

And his name is Peter Parker.
