Luna Lake is a 2D side-view fishing game where you play as a fisherman in a rural fishing village trying to catch the elusive Moonlight Manta in order to bring prosperity to your village.
My job consisted of:
Deciding on the mechanics, game loop and progression design.
Crafting a prototype on Unity to test the game mechanics, feasibility as well as the mechanics.
Designing the UI elements, menus and placements.

The prototype done on Unity is to test out the mechanics, level design, balancing and feasibility before attempting to recreate the game onto the custom engine.
Niche Genre: Since 2D fishing games is a relatively niche genre with not many games in this category, it was difficult to find references to find this genre of games and it was hard to gauge from a design standpoint how we can make it fun or interesting without the mechanics being too repetitive or boring.
Lighting and Contrast: Luna Lake is set at night at a lake, which means that lighting is extremely crucial for this game as it establishes the mood, setting as well as providing enough lighting so that players are able to see in the dark. With this, me and my design partner played around with all sorts of lighting that Unity has to offer, and studied the effects of them.
Tight Deadlines: In this project, we had to pitch an idea within 2 weeks, have a prototype by 5 weeks, and finish polishing it by 7 weeks, all while juggling 4 other modules. The deadline for this project was extremely tight, but with enough advises from professors, friends, teaching assistants and my design partner, I took the pressure and used it to help me push through and complete it by the deadlines.
