I am a quantitative researcher who studies a wide range of topics in accountancy and trained in consolidated research methods. I am particularly interested in exploring the issues related to corporate governance, auditing quality examination, and corporate political strategy.
I use Python (applied machine learning), SAS, and STATA.
During my spare time, I read books about theology and politics.

Selected Academic Research Papers:"What's the value of political connected directors" - with Prof. Cameron Truong , Journal of Contemporary Accounting & Economics, 2019

We examine how investors, through stock market reaction, perceived the political connection of the tone of the top from public listed companies, and when corruption (transparency) matters.
The paper has indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection.

"How firms salvage reputation after anti-corruption campaign" - with Dr. Weiting Zheng and Prof. Kulwant Singh

Driven by resources embedded theory and stakeholder theory, we collected data through news media and examine how firms strategically restores their reputation after the adverse events.

We examine whether and how gender-diverse audit pairs matter to audit quality.

We examine how auditors strategically respond to an exogeneous event occurred at client firms, and whether audit risk increase or decrease and through which channel.

ACF5957 Auditing and Assurance (Lecturer): 4.4 out of 5 (55 students per seminar)

Tech Projects:Predict employee retention:

Predict the probability that employees who will resign based on data of demographic and work performance;
Used algorithms such as LogisticRegression, RandomForestRegression, and GradientBoostedRegression, with tuning key hyperparameters based on simulated pre-analysis;
The best AUROC score (predicted v. actual) by functional departments from pipelines cross-validation is 70%+;
Use seen data to predict unseen data.

Predict students' academic performance:

Predict the probability that students would fail (excel) the unit based on their cohort characteristics and in-semester assessments performance, to offer timely academic advice to those labeled red flags;
The best AUROC score (predicted v. actual) from pipelines cross-validation is 73%+.

Identify clusters of Professional Certified Public Accountants:

Used public data of CPAs and their audit fees to construct an analytical table by using data wrangling technique;
Trained unsupervised learning model using K-Means clustering algorithms;
Developed working patterns based on their (ab)normal fees to clients and their work utility function to detect the cluster groups that might interest the regulator.
