A website advertising tours to Kyoto catering to cultural explorers seeking to immerse themselves in the local heritage, history, art and traditions of the city. We were tasked to create a desktop website presence introducing the tours with information included about the travel company named Ancient Tranquility, for which a logo was also designed. Also explored was how the desktop website could be altered to function on mobile screens effectively as a design too.
With the visual language keywords of elegant, enticing and wonder, I decided to strip down and only concentrate on the elements I needed. Because our target market are in for the cultural experiences, and from what I see, Kyoto's photography speaks wonders by itself. I wanted a design system that portrayed as many images as possible, but still elegant and therefore I had to iterate until I had the right balance of negative space and visual elements on the pages. Not only does the photography portray a wonderful world that looks unearthly, it also creates wonder in the sense of cultural relevance. Images of the tea ceremony, beautiful views of the geishas, mysterious temples and serene forests, each one could get our tourists to start booking, so I decided to let the pictures speak for themselves.
