Hi! I am Yujin Ham, a first-year Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.
My research interests include computer vision, deep learning, and their downstream applications in healthcare.
Before joining Rice, I received my M.S. degree at Ewha Womans [sic] University. My master's thesis concerned quality-adaptive compression artifact removal by exploiting domain adaptation and reinforcement learning.
I am so grateful and lucky to have Dr. Jewon Kang as my thesis advisor and to have opportunities to collaborate with members of the Information Coding and Processing Lab. (ICPL)

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and have lived here my entire life. However, I am a well-traveled person at the same time: I have been to every province in South Korea as well as around 30 other countries. These trips began at a very young age with my family, and as I got older my friends and colleagues became my travel buddies as well.
All this global-trotting strengthen my appreciation for cultural and intellectual diversity. It allowed me to see the world up close and shaped many of my professional and personal values. Through experiences that my family (or travel buddies) and I teamed up to solve unforeseen difficulties in unfamiliar places, I have learned teamwork and patience that will serve me for the rest of my life. This is what inspired and helped me to a great extent to be adaptable and sociable!
Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, climbing, snowboarding, hiking, and taking pictures with both digital and film cameras. This helps rejuvenate my mind and body, allowing me to keep on track with my professional and academic commitments!
