Young Topologists Meeting 2021

Young Topologists Meeting 2021

KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University

July 5-16, 2021

The Young Topologists Meeting (YTM) is an annual event that has previously been organised by the EPFL (Switzerland), the University of Copenhagen (Denmark); and jointly by Stockholm University and the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden). The YTM 2021 it will take place on July 5-16, 2021, between 3pm and 6pm CEST on each weekday. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we have decided to hold the meeting online. The intention of the conference is to create a setting in which young researchers in topology can meet each other and share their work. The program will consist of short talks given by the participants and three lecture series by invited speakers. This year's invited speakers are Kathryn Hess (EPFL), Thomas Nikolaus (WWU Münster) and Karen Vogtmann (Cornell University and University of Warwick).

Schedule and conference booklet

The schedule can be found here. The conference booklet, containing detailed information on the conference including the schedule and abstracts for all the talks, can be found here.

Talks and lecture series

The program will consist of short talks by the participants and three lecture series given by Kathryn Hess (EPFL), Thomas Nikolaus (WWU Münster) and Karen Vogtmann (Cornell University and University of Warwick). Abstracts for the lecture series and some of the slides can be found here and abstracts for the participant talks can be found in the conference booklet. All talks and lecture series will take place between 3pm and 6pm CEST on weekdays from July 5 until July 16. A detailed schedule can be found here.

Poster session

On the first Thursday of the event, July the 8th, there will be a poster session on gather.town. The idea is to simulate a real poster session, so participants will be able to walk around in a virtual environment, have a look at the posters being presented, and discuss them with the authors.

The deadline for submitting a poster is June 28. Posters can be submitted by emailing them to us on youngtopologistsmeeting@gmail.com in pdf format. In principle we will accept any poster, but we reserve the right to reject a poster that we deem unfit for the conference.

Social events

On the first Monday of the event (the 5th of July), we will have a Topological Pub Quiz. A form to sign up for the event will be sent out, so that we can (randomly) assign teams beforehand.

On the second Monday (the 12th of July), we will have a Game Night. Participants are welcome to join for an online game or simply for an informal chat.

On the second Thursday (the 15th of July), we will enjoy a drink or a cup of coffee together and prepare for the last day of the YTM!

All social events will be held on gather.town.

Location

The Young Topologists Meeting 2021 will take place online through Zoom and gather.town. The meeting code and password will be distributed to the participants shortly before the start of the conference.
