YouTube AI Prompt Search ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that lets you search YouTube using natural-language prompts. This page explains what data the extension collects, how it's used, and who to contact with questions.
Search prompts
When you type a prompt (e.g. "funny cat videos"), it is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to the YouTube Data API to fetch matching results. We do not sell, share, or use this data for advertising.
Search history
Your last few search prompts are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.local), so you can quickly reuse recent searches. This history never leaves your device and is not sent to our server except as a live search request at the moment you submit it.
What we do not collect
We do not collect or store: your name, email address, IP address, YouTube account information, watch history, or any other personally identifiable information. Our backend does not maintain user accounts or persistent logs of your searches — it briefly caches search results (not tied to you personally) for a few minutes to reduce redundant API calls, then discards them.
Third-party services
Search prompts are forwarded to the YouTube Data API v3, operated by Google, to retrieve video results. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Permissions we request
- storage — to save your recent search prompts locally on your device.
- Access to our backend server — to send your search prompt and receive results.
- Content script on youtube.com — to display the AI Search bar and results on the YouTube page. We do not read or transmit any other content from the page you're viewing.
Data retention
Search history stored locally stays on your device until you clear it (via the extension or by clearing Chrome's extension storage) or uninstall the extension. Our backend does not retain your search prompts beyond a short in-memory cache (a few minutes), used only to reduce duplicate API calls.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new effective date.
