About the Lab

Precision Health and Grit Research Laboratory (PHG Lab) is dedicated to advancing nursing science through precision health, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative research. Our mission is to improve health outcomes and quality of life across the lifespan by integrating clinical nursing, behavioral science, artificial intelligence, and advanced research methodologies.

Our research focuses on understanding how psychological strengths, particularly grit, interact with physical health, chronic disease management, and healthcare delivery. We investigate factors influencing health behaviors, symptom experiences, well-being, and professional development to support patient-centered and evidence-based care.

Meet Our Principal Investigator

Yu-Shiu Liu, PhD, RN, NP

Assistant Professor
College of Nursing, National Defense Medical Center

Dr. Yu-Shiu Liu's research focuses on precision health, congenital heart disease, grit, nursing workforce development, and innovative nursing interventions. Her work integrates quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches to explore how psychological strengths, health behaviors, and artificial intelligence can improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.

Her current research includes precision risk prediction for adults with congenital heart disease, grit and moral distress among nurse practitioners, and AI-assisted nursing interventions for chronic disease management. Dr. Liu actively collaborates with interdisciplinary researchers and is committed to translating research findings into evidence-based nursing practice.
