With a global health crisis ongoing, people are advised to stay at the comfort of their own homes with the intention of reducing the spread of the coronavirus, however other people continue to violate the basic guidelines and protocols that keep them from harm’s way. Those who manage to stay at their respective residences also tend to forget to maintain their lifestyle and manage their mental health. With that being said, it is important to take care of our well-being in this tough time we are currently facing.
Since the implementation of community quarantines and lockdowns, inactivity has been evident and people resorted to certain activities like watching their favorite television shows all day and staring at mobile devices for an extended amount of time, which may have the potential to increase the risk of certain health conditions later in life. These are what’s known as sedentary behavior, and it can be a challenge to those who are quarantined and isolated from other people. A solution for this dilemma is to engage in physical activities such as exercise and household chores, to prevent weight gain, improve sleep quality and provide a sense of accomplishment for the day.
During this time of the pandemic, it can be enticing to binge in on foods that have little or no nutritional value. It can be described as “emotional” or “stress” eating, and it is fairly common nowadays because it serves as a way to release the stress and tension a person obtained from the dramatic changes the COVID-19 situation has brought to them. Consumption of foods rich in essential nutrients and minerals is one way to improve the immune system, prevent the onset of the disease and promote better well-being and lifestyle.
There is no doubt that the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult for us to return to our normal daily routines, so it is no surprise that there are people who have a hard time controlling their emotions. Fear and concern of the unknown are relatively normal in this time and age, nevertheless, there are ways we can make use of to overcome it. Abstaining from reading news reports and articles can be beneficial for the reason that acquiring negative information may have a bad impact on the mind, thus triggering intense moods and reactions.
When there is a need to procure basic necessities for the family, a person should be aware of the risk of exposure he/she has to face when going out. Asymptomatic individuals do not exhibit symptoms, so it is crucial to follow the health standards that are being imposed in the community, such as the proper use of face masks and the observance of social distancing. Keep in mind that those people stricken with the virus should seek assistance from concerned health officials and remain at home in order to minimize the spread of the virus.
The coronavirus problem we are dealing with right now is remarkable; people from all walks of life are suffering, the economy is declining and businesses are closing down. Even though we may be overwhelmed with the happenings in our surroundings, let us not forget to take care of ourselves in this burdensome time.
